We left out hostel in Oia at about 930 after watching the magic Lion King type sunset. We got the bus from Oia to Thira to then get on another bus for an 1130pm ferry to Athens from the new port of Santorini. Because there was some complications with buses to get to the port, we ended up getting a cab as we didn’t want to miss our ferry we had already bought tickets for. Eddie was stressing we were going to miss it and I couldn’t help but giggle a bit inside. Reckon he popped out at least one grey from the stress so now I’m going to call him ‘the wizard’ as he’s officially started his wizard beard.
We got aboard a thirty minute late ferry and were directed into a room with no seats. Everybody who was already in the room had their sleeping bags rolled out on the ground. Eddie and I followed the car in front so to speak and rolled our sleeping bags out. A girl called Bonnie from Nelson Bay sat with us as she was by herself and she seemed like a good bloke.
Getting into my sleeping bag, I got really excited for some reason. I felt like a ten year old kid at his first sleep over at a mates house. Couldn’t get the grin off my face. We slept until the ferry rocked up to Athens which made it a quick trip.
In Athens we ran from one side of the road to the other trying to figure out which direction we needed to get the 420 bus (not a bus that everybody smokes weed on) to get to the main bus terminal. We managed to get on the 930am bus to Pyrgos only to be pulled off because there apparently wasn’t room. Didn’t quite understand that one but we obeyed the boss lady who was quite stern with us to get off.
We arrived in Pyrgos and got on another bus to Olympia. Spoke to a local schoolgirl who was sitting on the seat in front and she was getting off the same stop as us so she showed us where to go to our hostel.
One thing we’ve started to learn which makes situations a million times better when they don’t go exactly to plan minute to minute, is to just accept laissez faire ‘let it be’ and just get on with it. Having a cry doesn’t get us anywhere nor being angry and frustrated. It’s all an adventure so every bus we miss or stuff up we might make is part of the adventure.
Plan is to travel to the east coast of Italy tomorrow so another big 24+ hours of transit ahead of us
