Isla De Ometepe, Nicaragua

A little big island near the centre of Nicaragua. Hosting two volcanos, Isla De Ometepe is filled with living creatures – mainly bugs and mozzies – and is a nice mix between tropics and a developed State. Ometepe is connected via paved and dirt roads, with scooters available to rent to move about the island. Otherwise your transport options are walking, cycling or tuktuk’s.

Arriving by ferry to the island, dinner was served by some local women (chicken and plantains), and then an early night for tomorrows adventures.

It was a day whereby not much occurred but plenty was seen. Almost a full day driving, some of the highlights included beautiful views of Volcano Concepcion and Volcano Maderas, as well as a swim in the local spring.

The plan originally was to do a full day hike of Volcano Concepcion however after now having done four volcanos in less amount of weeks, they have become a bit like the ruins of Europe. Seen a couple, seen them all.

However, the natural springs were a different story. Wherever there is going to be a rope swing, there is going to be the Codger. The spring is cool so offers relief from the hot sun and humid air. Given it was a Sunday, every local man, woman, kid and their dog was at Ojo De Agua. The kids either didn’t understand the concept of the rope swing or couldn’t hang on because they kept either letting go too late and almost injuring themselves or letting go too early to land in a belly flop.

A brilliant day, best told through photographs and videos to show at the next bbq back home.

On to Costa Rica next !
