After battling through our first wash, we met a canadian bloke called Jesse who absolutely loved two things; castles and weed. Jesse had a car (new merc station wagon c class) and was driving to Barcelona the next morning, offering us a lift of which we happily accepted, traveling in comfort and style.
We arrived to Barcelona at a hostel out of town. It was real far from the main drag La Rumbla Catalunya so was a bit of a mission to get to. We walked around barca in the Saturday arvo sun and had a look around at the shops and another place for Eddie and I to stay as Jesse was moving to the next place to meet his mates Sunday morning. We bought groceries and went back to the hostel and had a feed.
At the hostel we were talking to a couple of Canadian girls of whom we tricked into believing that in Australia there is such thing as pants off friday. Eddie and I convinced them that, generally only in office jobs where you sit at a desk, employers let employees take off their pants at work because it is generally hotter on Fridays than any other day of the week as well as the fact that the weekend was approaching so everybody likes to loosen up before the weekend. They asked if girls did it and we both replied sensibly that some do but most don’t like to. One American who was listening in exclaimed after hearing what we said “that’s it. I’m definitely moving to Australia!”
Not to say that these people who believed us are in the slightest stupid or gullible but the two of us just bounced bullshit off each other and pulled off an extremely convincing blatant lie.
We left the yellow nest hostel (sister to the purple nest hostel where we stayed in valencia) and made our way to Hostal Paris, right in the middle of the city, where we spent two nights. Yesterday we cruised around the city using the metro to visit heaps of different landmarks. Eddie was particularly keen to visit all the Gaudi buildings, some bloke who was an architect or artist or something. I keep referring to him as ghandi but I don’t think Eddie is extremely impressed with my mockery. We also booked flights to Greece, flying into Athens tomorrow arvo meaning we fly out of barca at 1055am. Because its a big expensive day for us, I’m almost certain there will be a hiccup of some sort.
Today we explored barca more and went to the beach. Compared to Valencia, this beach is really nice. Loads of attractive women who have bought half price bikinis (if you get my drift) and the water is a perfect temperature.
On a completely separate note, I also had a sneaky shave of my beard with my pocket knife, my first shave of the trip, which took an extremely long time. Looks dodgy and crap but sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say, when in rome.
Plan for tonight is to catch up with Yumi (from RMYC) and her friend Holly for dinner and then go and meet Nicole Ramson and whoever she is traveling with for a few drinks which should be a good end to our trip in Spain !
