Who the hell is given the responsibility to name these places, honestly. I was never the most academic kid in school and might have the attention span of a um… um… Old man Perks and the K bomb, because my birthday is near, I’ve decided I want a colouring in book and some textas to pass the time. I’m not kidding. Yeah anyway, even though I’m not real smart, I did listen enough to know that an H and a V next to each other is just damn straight not on.
Got a bus from Zadar to Split hearing an old classic that I don’t think anybody ever has or ever will appreciate, ‘In The Navy’. Ferry from Split to Hvar and walked around for a solid thirty minutes in cyclonic winds trying to find Hvar Out Hostel. It ended up being right in front of where we hopped off the ferry. Walking along the waterside, the super yachts that were docked there were unbelievable.
We got up to the hostel and got into our six room dorm with air con (absolute godsend) and went shopping for dinner. Cooked our dinner, met fellow campers and conversed over a few tasty beverages. Went out to some nearby pub and on my way home I found myself with a group of girls who were being invited onto one of the super yachts by some creepy old men. I went on with them because I wanted to go on the at least half a million dollar boat. The girls abruptly left as they were too creeped out so I also left and went to bed.
The Wizard and I were living the life in Hvar, walking around the port in a once again cloudless blue sky, diving into the water that can only be described as salty perfection. The Battlers walked around to one of the beaches but we preferred to swim from the little concrete ledges built from the island as the beaches aren’t really beaches over here. They also walked up to a castle but had to pay to get in so didn’t bother. Chilled night that night, cooked a bitta dinner and hit the hay.
After the second night, our last night, we bought ferry tickets to the next place called Korcula. Another weird name but at least it doesn’t look like someone has accidentally pressed the wrong key on the keyboard; someone with fat fingers. Hung about all day before jumping on a ferry at 6pm to Korcula.
Eddie finished reading another ‘Game Of Thrones’ book making it his second completed book since we left Sydney and I’ve finished ‘The Virgin Suicides’ and ‘The Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington’. Both of us absolutely loved Hvar and agreed that it was up there with the best places we’ve been to so far. Thanks for having us !
(not having a giggle about the colouring in book either, it would be so useful for ferry, train, bus and plane rides)
