Mykonos – written 20/7

This was news to me when I arrived here and it may or may not have been common knowledge to the rest of the earth’s population but Mykonos is gayer than a rollerblading convention in San Francisco. The amount of hommos here is ridiculous. As you may or may not have gathered, due to Eddie and I being above averagely trendy blokes compared to some, and also that it is just the two of us and aren’t traveling with any girls, those we did meet instantly thought we were poofs. Oblivious to others’ thoughts, we found out later that night that some girls we met on the ferry who we ran into again said “ohh so you guys aren’t gay”. This did not sit well with either of us. From that point onwards, we didn’t wear singlets as all the hommos wore those and we made sure we walked separately to avoid any confusion.

We stayed at paraga beach hostel and campsite which was right on the beach.

I understand that this is me being precious but there were a few things I wasn’t a fan of at the campsite. One being that there was no toilet paper in each cubicle. When I asked a staff member what the deal was, he pointed out to me the communal massive toilet roll and suggested I take what I needed into the cubicle with me. I thought he was having a giggle but the seriousness in his face made it seem like he was never taught how to smile. I had no idea how much toilet paper to grab as the amount I need generally works on a situational basis.
The second thing was that the accommodation we were staying in was identical to a poorly made army base camp tent with a bit of cloth covering a steel frame with two prison beds next to each other and no chance of air circulation. I reckon I could have built a better one from toilet paper if there was any provided.
Mykonos was windy as hell which actually wasn’t too bad because it cooled us down a bit.

Now we have the Barry’s out of the way, we can focus on the Bonza’s.

We were in town eating pita gyro’s and during our feed Sophia and Tink walked by. They were in Greece with Sasha and Sally. We went back on their quadbikes to their hotel which was incredible and then went out for our second proper feed eating restaurant quality food. We predrinked at theirs then went to a place called ‘Mex’ in town. When we were in Mex, there were not any seats inside or out so we just walked onto the street with our drinks. It was the strangest thing and we still can’t get used to the fact that there are no RSA laws over here. We left Mex to go and see Laidback Luke DJ at Paradise Beach. Eddie and I were front and centre and so we kept hi-fiving and doing that cup respect handshake that black people do when they see their homies before they go in for the one handed brother love hug. He didn’t start until 130am or something and so we left at 430am for memory. These late nights/early mornings (whatever you want to call them) are absolute killers.

The following night we saw Sebastian Ingrosso, one of the DJ’s from Swedish House Mafia. He was epic. We were led to believe that it was actually Swedish House playing however we were being jived. Absolutely shattered so we didn’t go out last night in Mykonos.

We met a beautiful Danish girl our last night in Mykonos at the campsite. We told her of what we had done so far and what we were going to do. We mentioned that we flew from Barcelona to Athens even though we need to be in Turkey in September. She told us that that was the stupidest thing she’s ever heard. Her reassurance of the fact we have done Europe wrong played in our minds for a bit until I revealed to her that I actually thought Greece was next to Spain and not next to Turkey. She looked at me like I was the scarecrow with no brain.

That’s the general summary and we head to Ios tomorrow for a couple of nights which should be good fun.

Still enjoying it and between Eddie and I we haven’t had any domestics since Valencia so that’s a good thing.
