The timing of life can at times be indescribable, where particular conversations take place within a business, simultaneously as two mates catch up over a beer and discuss all the latest gossip from employment, to relationships and also travel. A simple act of being with the right person at the right time, talking about the right thing, enabled an employment opportunity that I’m all but certain others would die for – to become a promo girl.

I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity and responsibility to drive a 1978 Volkswagon Kombi with the Surf Dive n Ski insignia printed on the side. Without going into too much detail, I had to drive the Kombi into shopping malls around the state to promote the surfing retailer ‘Surf Dive n Ski’. I’m unsure who has the better deal, me or them, but I’m pretty convinced that it’s me.

Jumping on the microphone and spruiking my way through some convincing comments to get people into the store such as “I saw Santa Clause in Surf Dive n Ski earlier this morning buying a bikini for Mrs Clause and he was absolutely stoked about the discount he got”, to an even more dignity thieving, “HO HO HO is what Santa Clause says, LOW LOW LOW is what we are offering at Surf Dive n Ski today!”

It’s a secret on the location of the Kombi leading up until Christmas but as long as I know where it is, that’s all that matters for now. I’ll leave you with some photographs I took of the Kombi on a trip just south of Sydney to Wollongong.
