Suchitoto, El Salvador

Only an overnighter here but what a picturesque part of the world. Located in El Salvador, less than a stone throw away from whoop whoop, another cobblestone street bears surrounding jungle, mountains and sits atop a lake.

Opting out of the civil war historical tour, a better decision was made to walk to a restaurant sat on the edge of a cliff overlooking the lake. Here, you had the option of paying for your coffee in Bitcoin. For all its hype, this is the first public place he’s ever seen it as a payment option.

A local’s house for dinner – papusas (pronounced ‘pa-poo-sars’). They are corn tortillas pre-filled with beans, tomato, spinach, whatever toppings you want. They look incredibly bland from the outside but are full on the inside and are delicious.

The alarm buzzer at 5am for a quick trip down to the edge of the lake for a sunrise kayak. It was nice to do 4km of paddling to get some exercise in. Many a bird was spotted from afar as the sun rose in the distance. The hot spring / river on the way back to town was an added bonus.

On to coastal El Salvador !
