Venice, Italy

A city renowned for its masks and street canals. You couldn’t hide from the heat behind a mask in July with temperatures hitting mid 30 degrees during the day and often not a lick of wind. The only coastal area I know with no coastal breeze.

After a days worth of continual delays, the Idiots flight landed in Venice airport. One of the Idiot’s tried to convince the other that the runway in Venice was in fact also water. She didn’t believe him. An alilaguna (water bus) from the airport to Cannaregio and a short cobblestone walk with suitcases to our 19th Century style hotel. It was late in the evening by the time we reached Venezia.

Navigating the canals, the Idiots went straight to Ponte del Accademia. Not necessarily the smartest thing they could’ve done in the heat but the reasoning was one of some importance. A photo on that bridge was required to replicate the same photographs taken in 2005 and 2012… For those past, present and future who have and will take this photo – thank you.

Continuing to wonder around the canals, there was a comforting but underwhelming amount of pigeons in St Mark’s Square. They must all have got covid (or still living off the Italian government stimulus payments so don’t need to return to work). Perhaps they are just looking for other methods to make a living…

Lots of gelato, wine, walking and exploring. A place you only need to come to once but always happy to return to.
